Rudbeckia hirta ‘Claire’ (Black-Eyed Susan)

Is a compact, flowering perennial (often grown as an annual) valued for its bright, daisy-like blooms and long-lasting color. Commonly used in borders, mass plantings, and pollinator gardens, it provides vibrant seasonal interest and attracts butterflies and beneficial insects in residential and commercial landscapes. 

Water Requirements: Low to moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season, then as needed.

Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in sandy or loamy soils; tolerant of poor soils and does not require high fertility.

Growth Rate: Moderate.

Bloom Time: Summer through fall; produces abundant daisy-like flowers.

Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 3–9. Excellent heat tolerance; cold hardy once established.

Pruning: Minimal. Deadheading encourages continued blooming and maintains a tidy appearance.

Toxicity: Not considered toxic to people or pets.
