Plumbago auriculata 'Alba' (White Plumbago)
Is a heat-loving, sprawling shrub known for its clusters of pure white, phlox-like flowers and its ability to bloom nearly year-round in warm climates. It is commonly used in tropical and subtropical landscapes as a hedge, border plant, or cascade over walls, offering a clean, elegant alternative to the classic blue plumbago.
Water Requirements: Moderate. Prefers regular watering but is drought tolerant once established. Allow the topsoil to dry slightly between waterings.
Soil: Well-draining soil; tolerates sandy and slightly alkaline soils. Performs well in poor soils as long as drainage is good.
Growth Rate: Fast.
Bloom Time: Spring through fall; nearly year-round in frost-free areas.
Temperature: Warm-season shrub. Hardy in zones 9–11. Can tolerate light frost but may die back in freezing temperatures.
Pruning: Responds well to pruning. Trim lightly after bloom cycles to maintain shape or cut back more heavily in spring to rejuvenate.
Toxicity: Mildly toxic; sap may cause skin irritation in sensitive individuals.
