Rondeletia leucophylla (Panama Rose)
Commonly known as Panama Rose, is an evergreen tropical shrub valued for its clusters of fragrant flowers and continuous blooming habit. Commonly used as a hedge, accent shrub, or butterfly garden plant, it provides vibrant color and attracts pollinators throughout much of the year in warm-climate landscapes.
Water Requirements: Moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season and during extended dry periods for best flowering.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in fertile, sandy or loamy soils enriched with organic matter.
Growth Rate: Moderate to fast.
Bloom Time: Nearly year-round in warm climates; produces clusters of fragrant flowers.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 9–11. Excellent heat tolerance; sensitive to frost and may be damaged below 30°F (–1°C).
Pruning: Moderate. Prune lightly to maintain shape and encourage dense growth and continued flowering.
Toxicity: Not considered toxic to people or pets.
