Araucaria heterophylla (Norfolk Island Pine)
Commonly known as Norfolk Pine, is an evergreen conifer valued for its symmetrical, tiered branching and soft, feathery needles. Commonly used as a specimen tree in tropical landscapes or as an indoor plant, it provides a distinctive, formal appearance and strong vertical interest in residential and commercial settings.
Water Requirements: Moderate. Prefers evenly moist soil; water regularly during the first growing season and during extended dry periods. Avoid waterlogged conditions.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in slightly acidic, sandy soils but adapts to a range of soil types with good drainage.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Bloom Time: Non-flowering; produces cones rather than flowers.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 10–11. Excellent heat tolerance; sensitive to cold and may be damaged below 35°F (2°C).
Pruning: Minimal. Little pruning required; avoid cutting the central leader to maintain natural form.
