Mentha × villosa (Mojito Mint / Cuban Mint)
Commonly known as Mojito Mint or Cuban Mint, is a fragrant perennial herb prized for its mild mint flavor and culinary use in beverages, especially the classic mojito. Commonly grown in herb gardens, containers, and patio planters, it provides fresh aromatic foliage and spreads readily in warm climates.
Water Requirements: Moderate. Prefers consistently moist soil; water regularly during the first growing season and during extended dry periods.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in fertile, organic-rich soils but adapts to sandy or loamy soils with adequate moisture.
Growth Rate: Fast.
Bloom Time: Summer; produces small clusters of flowers that attract pollinators.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 5–11. Excellent heat tolerance; may die back in colder climates but regrows in spring.
Pruning: Minimal to moderate. Regular harvesting encourages dense growth and prevents plants from becoming leggy.
