Magnolia grandiflora (Southern Magnolia)
Is a large, evergreen ornamental tree valued for its glossy, dark green foliage and showy, fragrant white flowers. Commonly used as a shade tree, specimen tree, or privacy screen, it provides year-round structure and classic Southern character in residential, commercial, and estate landscapes.
Water Requirements: Low to moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season, then as needed.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Prefers slightly acidic soils but adapts to sandy and loamy conditions.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Bloom Time: Late spring through summer; produces large, fragrant white flowers.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 7–10. Excellent heat tolerance; cold hardy once established.
Pruning: Minimal. Prune after flowering to remove dead or crossing branches or to shape when young.
