Jackfrost Ligustrum

Ligustrum japonicum ‘Jack Frost’ (Jack Frost Ligustrum)

Is a variegated evergreen shrub valued for its striking green leaves edged in creamy white. Commonly used as a hedge, screen, foundation plant, or accent shrub, it provides bright contrast and year-round structure in residential and commercial landscapes. Its dense growth habit makes it ideal for formal or informal plantings.  

Water Requirements: Low to moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season, then as needed.

Soil: Well-draining soil. Tolerates sandy, loamy, and slightly alkaline soils; adaptable to a wide range of conditions.

Growth Rate: Moderate to fast.

Bloom Time: Late spring to early summer; produces clusters of small white flowers.

Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 7–10. Excellent heat tolerance; cold hardy once established.

Pruning: Moderate. Prune to maintain shape or size; tolerates heavy pruning and is well suited for formal hedges.

Toxicity: Berries are toxic if ingested; may cause mild gastrointestinal upset in people and pets.
