Gardenia taitensis (Tahitian Gardenia / Tiaré Flower)
Commonly known as Tahitian Gardenia or Tiaré Flower, is a tropical evergreen shrub valued for its intensely fragrant, creamy white blooms and glossy foliage. Often used as a specimen shrub, accent plant, or container feature, it adds a strong tropical presence and is especially popular near patios and entryways where its fragrance can be enjoyed.
Water Requirements:
Moderate. Prefers consistently moist soil; water regularly during the first growing season and maintain even moisture once established. Not highly drought tolerant.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Prefers rich, slightly acidic soil; benefits from organic matter and good drainage.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Bloom Time: Spring through summer; produces highly fragrant, waxy white flowers.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 10–11. Excellent heat tolerance; sensitive to frost and may be damaged below 32°F (0°C).
Pruning: Minimal. Prune lightly after flowering to maintain shape and encourage branching.
Toxicity: Not considered toxic to people or pets.
