Dracaena reflexa (Song of India)
Commonly known as Song of India, is an evergreen tropical shrub valued for its colorful, variegated foliage and upright branching habit. Commonly used as a landscape accent, hedge, or container specimen, it provides bright contrast and tropical character in residential and commercial landscapes.
Water Requirements: Low to moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season, then allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in sandy or loamy soils enriched with organic matter; avoid poorly drained conditions.
Growth Rate: Moderate.
Bloom Time: Rare in landscape settings; may produce small fragrant white flowers under ideal conditions.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 10–11. Excellent heat tolerance; sensitive to frost and may be damaged below 40°F (4°C).
