Desert Spoon (Dasylirion wheeleri)
Is a hardy desert shrub with a symmetrical rosette of narrow, toothed leaves. It is widely used in xeriscapes and desert-style landscapes for its architectural form and extreme drought tolerance.
Water Requirements: Very low. Highly drought tolerant; water sparingly.
Soil: Well-draining, sandy or rocky soil.
Growth Rate: Slow.
Bloom Time: Late spring to summer; tall flowering stalk with small cream-colored blooms.
Temperature: Excellent heat tolerance; very cold hardy for a desert plant (down to ~0°F / –18°C).
Pruning: Minimal. Remove dead leaves if desired; natural skirt is often left intact.
Toxicity: Not known to be toxic.
