Crape Myrtle ‘Purple Magic’ (Lagerstroemia indica)
Compact ornamental shrub/small tree known for its vibrant, deep purple flower clusters and attractive bark. Highly valued for long-lasting blooms and excellent landscape structure.
Water Requirements: Prefers consistent moisture during establishment. Once established, it is moderately drought-tolerant. Water deeply but infrequently.
Soil: Thrives in well-draining soil; tolerates a wide range of soil types including clay, loam, and sandy soils.
Growth Rate: Moderate to fast.
Bloom Time: Produces abundant purple flower clusters from mid-summer through early fall.
Temperature: Heat-loving and thrives in warm, humid climates. Cold-hardy in USDA Zones 7–9; protect young plants from hard freezes.
Pruning: Prune lightly in late winter or very early spring before new growth emerges. Remove crossing branches and shape as needed. Avoid severe “crape murder” topping.
