Canna ‘Tropicanna’
Is a bold, tropical perennial valued for its vibrant, multicolored foliage and striking blooms. Commonly used as a focal point in beds, borders, and large containers, it delivers dramatic color and texture throughout the warm season. Its upright habit and large leaves make it ideal for adding height and tropical character to residential and commercial landscapes.
Water Requirements: Moderate. Prefers consistently moist soil; water regularly during the first growing season and during extended dry periods. Tolerates brief wet conditions once established.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in fertile, organic-rich soils but adapts to sandy soils with proper irrigation.
Growth Rate: Fast during warm weather.
Bloom Time: Late spring through fall; produces large, iris-like flowers.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 8–11. Excellent heat tolerance; foliage may be damaged by frost but rhizomes can survive light freezes in warmer zones.
Pruning: Minimal. Remove spent blooms and damaged foliage; cut back to the ground after frost if necessary.
Toxicity: Not considered toxic to people or pets.
