Alcantarea imperialis (Imperial Bromeliad)

Commonly known as Imperial Bromeliad, is a large, dramatic tropical plant valued for its massive rosette form and striking architectural presence. Commonly used as a specimen plant or focal point in tropical and high-end landscapes, it creates bold visual impact in residential and commercial settings. 


Water Requirements: Low to moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season, then allow soil to dry slightly between waterings.

Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in sandy or gritty soils; highly sensitive to poor drainage.

Growth Rate: Slow.

Bloom Time: Infrequent; blooms after several years, producing a tall, dramatic flower spike.

Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 9–11. Excellent heat tolerance; sensitive to frost and may be damaged below 30°F (–1°C).

Pruning: Minimal. Remove dead or damaged lower leaves as needed.

Toxicity: Not considered toxic to people or pets.
