Asparagus densiflorus ‘Sprengeri’ (Asparagus Fern / Sprenger’s Asparagus)
Is a fast-growing, trailing perennial valued for its fine, feathery foliage and soft, cascading habit. Commonly used in hanging baskets, containers, groundcover plantings, and borders, it provides lush texture and works well as a filler or spiller in residential and commercial landscapes.
Water Requirements: Low to moderate. Drought tolerant once established; water regularly during the first growing season, then as needed. Performs best with consistent moisture.
Soil: Well-draining soil. Performs best in rich, organic soils but adapts to sandy and loamy soils with adequate moisture.
Growth Rate: Fast.
Bloom Time: Spring through summer; produces small, fragrant flowers followed by decorative berries.
Temperature: Hardy in USDA Zones 9–11. Excellent heat tolerance; sensitive to frost and may be damaged below 30°F (–1°C).
Pruning: Minimal to moderate. Trim as needed to control spread and maintain shape; tolerates cutting back well.
Toxicity: Toxic if ingested; berries may cause mild gastrointestinal upset in people and pets.
